I'll tell you a story of a town.
a place you have to lose before its found,
where run-aways and not-good-enoughs and kids two-parts-dumb-one-part-dead-inside
flock. to get away, to hide,
to live, to thrive.
and magic is more than a gimmick,
filled with elves and halfies and humans too.
where girls go to find their dream boys, and boys go to find anything at all.
and if you're not one or the other you end up singing songs for a buck,
and you don't believe in hope, so lets try for luck.
where names have more power than blood, so forget the one mama gave you,
and certain things only last so long and you cant rely on the cash in your left shoe.
where statues come to life, and you can flee from all your troubles.
and chocolate is oh-so-rare, its worth a meal or more so ask for doubles.
once in a while some good folks give out a few tips.
don't drink the river water, avoid the girl in the house on hell street-she's bad magic, the clock tower's always wrong, and if all else fails, carry on, until you get hit
by wayward magic.
where if you have a chance stop by elsewhere books and offer the wolf boy behind the counter a smile. because not everyone makes it out lucky.

Kid, i wonder why you've come here, when we're all so drunk on wanderlust and caffeine runs through our veins.
-here be dragons-
and the maps haven't got a clue. so leave your iPhone behind and take Fluffy along for the ride.
sometimes if you make it to where you wanna be, you can't ever leave.
but if you've made it here, there isn't much else to say.
and yet there are a thousand warnings to tell.
so lets end it while you still have the chance, a should-i-stay-or-should-i-go-? decision.

if you decide to stick around,
Welcome to Bordertown.
A fun poem/prose-y thing I did after reading 'Welcome to Bordertown', one of several books in the Borderland series, created by Terri Windling.
